How to Get Rye and Use It in Manor Lords
Slavic Magic

In Manor Lords, Rye is a type of crop that can be unlocked and used to produce bread. Rye is similar to Wheat in that it can be turned into Grain and then used to produce Flour. However, Rye has an advantage over Wheat in areas with lower soil fertility. Rye tends to have better fertility than Wheat, allowing players to take advantage of locations with suboptimal fertility and still produce a decent yield. This guide will explain what Rye is, how to obtain it, and how to use it for your settlement's food supply.

  1. Unlock Rye Cultivation Development: To obtain Rye, players must unlock the Rye Cultivation upgrade from the Farming section of the Development Skill Tree. This requires first unlocking the Orchardry upgrade, followed by investing another point to unlock Rye Cultivation.
  2. Plant and Harvest Rye: Once Rye Cultivation is unlocked, Rye becomes an available crop to plant in Fields. It is recommended to plant Rye seeds during the Spring season for optimal growth.
  3. Import Rye from the Trading Post: Alternatively, players can import Rye from the Trading Post if they have sufficient Regional Wealth. Establishing a trade route for Rye costs 12 Regional Wealth, and each unit of imported Rye costs the same amount. Exporting Rye yields 2 Regional Wealth per unit.

Using Rye in Manor Lords

  • Convert Rye to Grain
    • Rye must first be converted into Grain at a Farmhouse. Ensure a Farmhouse is constructed, and increase the threshing priority if Grain is not being produced.
  • Produce Flour from Grain
    • The Grain obtained from Rye can then be used to produce Flour at a Windmill. Construct Windmills in your settlement to facilitate this process.
  • Make Bread from Flour
    • Finally, the Flour produced from Rye Grain can be converted into Bread at a Communal Oven or Bakery Extension. Providing your settlement with a steady supply of Bread will help satisfy your population's food needs.
    • To construct a Bakery Extension, players must first upgrade their Burgage Plots to Level 2. The Bakery Extension is more efficient at producing Bread than a Communal Oven.

By following these steps, players can effectively incorporate Rye into their farming and food production strategies in Manor Lords. Rye's resilience in lower fertility areas makes it a valuable crop for ensuring a consistent food supply, especially when combined with other resources like meat, berries, and vegetables.
