Manor Lords Trading Guide: How to Import, Export, and Establish Trade Routes
Slavic Magic

Trading plays a crucial role in growing the settlement and acquiring resources that may not be readily available in the starting region. This guide will explain how to set up a Trading Post, establish Trade Routes, and effectively import and export goods to boost the town's Regional Wealth.

Building Trading Post

The first step in trading is to construct a Trading Post, which costs 4 Timber. The Trading Post must be connected to the King's Road, the main road that runs through all regions of the map and serves as the primary trade route.

Once the Trading Post is built, assign a family to work there. Without a family, the Trading Post will not function properly. To further optimize trading, purchase a horse and assign it to the Trading Post. Horses can pull carts, allowing for faster and more efficient transportation of goods compared to workers carrying them by hand.

To begin trading a specific resource or good, click on the Trading Post and navigate to the "Trade" tab. Locate the desired item and click on the horse cart icon next to it, which reads "Establish Trade Route." This will unlock the trade route for that particular item, allowing for importing and exporting. Keep in mind that establishing a Trade Route requires Regional Wealth.

After establishing a Trade Route, set the Trade Rules for that item. The options include:

  • Import: Purchase the item from other regions
  • Export: Sell the item to other regions
  • Full Trade: Both import and export the item

Additionally, set a storage limit to determine how much of the resource or good should be kept in the settlement. For example, when exporting Warbows, keep at least 36 in reserve to equip one unit of Archer Militia.

Acquiring Regional Wealth for Trade Routes

If the settlement lacks sufficient Regional Wealth to establish a Trade Route, there are alternative ways to acquire it. One method is to build up an army, defeat bandits in battle, and plunder their camp. The spoils from these battles can be invested in unlocking Trade Routes and purchasing horses for merchants.

In addition to the Trading Post, Manor Lords also features Pack Stations, which allow for trading resources between two owned regions. However, this type of trade is done through bartering and does not generate Regional Wealth. Pack Stations are useful for exchanging resources between settlements but do not contribute directly to the town's financial growth.
